Basic Instinct - 1992- Directed by Paul Verhoeven - 127mins - Starring Michael Douglas, Sharon Stone, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Dennis Arndt and George Dzundza.

This glossy erotic thriller stars a sexy Sharon Stone as crime novelist and possibly sex-thrills killer Catherine Tramell. Her rock star boyfriend has been found murdered and she is the number one suspect. Assigned to her case is detective Nick Curran (Michael Douglas), who happens to like a bit of rumpy pumpy himself, so he immediately falls for the lady parts of Tramell, who seems to be very keen to show them off. There then follows some very steamy bedroom action, while talented director Paul Verhoeven (Robocop, Starship Troopers, Hollow Man) continues to dangle the question - did she do it or not? If you can get past the Michael Douglas butt in the moonlight section, then you’re sure to enjoy this steamy thriller.

Basic Instinct 2 - 2006 - Directed by Michael Caton-Jones - 114mins - Starring Sharon Stone, David Morrissey, David Thewlis, Hugh Dancy and Stan Collymore.

Sharon Stone waited nearly 14 years to make this sequel, and despite still looking remarkable sexy in her late forties we rather hope that she doesn’t wait another 14 years to complete the trilogy… but then again some people may like that! Big things were once expected of Rob Roy and Memphis Belle director Michael Caton-Jones; however, this box-office flop has certainly dented, if not crushed those expectations. For some reason this plodding sequel can never quite escape the feel of a TV drama and not a very good one at that. Taking on the Michael Douglas role of willing sap is David Morrissey as psychiatrist Michael Glass. He is assigned the murder suspect Catherine Tramell (Stone), whose boyfriend has died in a car accident which occurred while having sex while driving. Tramell makes no secret that she enjoys the trill of risky sex, but was his death intentional or accidental? RADA educated Morrissey seems miscast in this disappointing film, which can only be described as a glossy thriller, without any gloss or thrills.

Body Heat - 1981 - Directed by Lawrence Kasden (The Big Chill) - 113mins - Starring William Hurt, Kathleen Turner, Ted Danson, Richard Crenna and Mickey Rourke.

Writer and Director Lawrence Kasden delivers a steamy film noir, with sharp dialogue, clever twists and passionate performances from his cast. Kathleen Turner, in her screen debut, stars as the femme fatale who begins a hot and sticky affair with small town lawyer William Hurt. One thing leads to another and he’s soon talked into murdering Turner’s rich husband (Richard Crenna). It’s a wonderful homage to the thrillers of the 1940’s such as Double Indemnity, complete with an ending you didn’t see coming.

Body of Evidence - 1993 - Directed by Uli Edel (Last Exit to Brooklyn) - 100mins - Starring Madonna, Willem Defoe, Julianne Moore, Anne Archer, Joe Mantegna and Jurgen Prochnow.

This rather lacklustre courtroom drama features some rather “hot” sex scenes. Madonna stars as a sexy dominatrix who is arrested and accused of killing her lover by a combination of a weak heart and a rather energetic S & M session - after he had written her into his will, of course. Willem Defoe co-stars as her defence lawyer who finds himself drawn into her kinky games - and as a result gets some hot wax poured on his nether regions. Whatever turns you on Willem.

Wild Orchid - 1990 - Directed by Zalman King - 107mins - Starring Mickey Rourke, Carre Otis, Jacqueline Bisset, Bruce Greenwood and Assumpta Serna.

The classic story of an innocent young woman finding sexual awakening and learning the way of the world in glamarous and exotic surroundings. The innocent in question is former model Carre Otis whose naive lawyer is trust into a steamy Brazilian location to help with a property deal. As the heat rises over the transaction , her passions are also risen, firstly by the raunchy activities of her horny boss [Jacqueline Bisset], but also by her encounters with a mysterious and charismatic stranger [Mickey Rourke]. Otis makes an attractive and compelling leading lady, with the fact that she is a novice actress possibly lending some realism to the naivety and innocence of her performance. Meanwhile Rourke is on fine form as the brooding James Dean-like charmer - this is before his good looks took a beating from his ill-advised attempt to become a professional boxer. If you are happy to overlook the fact that the property deal plot is a pretty flimsy, you need to just sit back, relax and enjoy the sexy Rio locations, the excellent samba soundtrack and the sweet chemistry between the two leads - who were actually dating at the time of filming. Followed by a sequel Wild Orchid 2: Two Shades of Blue which has nothing to do with the original movie, but is still directed by Zalman King.

Zandalee - 1990 - Directed by Sam Pillsbury (Free Willy 3) - 104mins - Starring Nicolas Cage, Judge Reinhold, Erika Anderson, Joe Pantoliano, Marisa Tomei and Steve Buscemi.

This sex-filled movie set in a steamy New Orleans is a real daft affair. You’ll wonder how Nicolas Cage was ever talked into appearing in it. He stars as an artist who falls for his best friends wife (former model Erika Anderson). She clearly doesn’t like wearing many clothes and is gagging for some action but her burnt out businessman husband (Reinhold) isn’t giving her anything in the bedroom other than a peaceful nights sleep. As the temperatures rise she finds herself torn between the man she married and the selfish artist who can make her toes curl.
